Western redcedar

Description

Western redcedar (Thuja plicata) grows along the coast and at low to mid-elevations in the southern interior wet belt of British Columbia, Canada. As western redcedar grows best in moist to wet soils it is said to "like wet feet". It is a long-lived species, some times over 1,000 years, with grey stringy bark which tears off in long strips. It's wood is extremely resistant to decay and insect damage and fallen trees can remain sound for over 100 years.
